In the evolving landscape of digital healthcare, the relationship between a clinician and their client remains the most vital element of care. As AI tools become more common, maintaining that bond requires a foundation of absolute transparency and trust.
For psychologists, trust begins with knowing exactly how your technology partners handle data. It is crucial to understand that while AI tools offer efficiency, you remain the Health Information Custodian (HIC) under PHIPA. You hold the legal and ethical duty to protect your clients’ information, meaning your software vendor must act strictly as a service provider, not as the primary data controller.
True trust, however, is fully realized during the informed consent process. Relationship building involves explaining technology in a way that empowers the client. A transparent consent discussion provides the client with the space and safety to say "no" to AI, email, or other tools without fear of compromising their care. This autonomy is a cornerstone of ethical practice; technology should support the therapeutic alliance, never overshadow it.
At Hyperfocus, we believe you shouldn’t have to guess about our practices. We have published our Compliance & AI Evaluation webpage to provide you with the clear, documented answers you need to fulfill your professional obligations. By being open about our security, Canadian data residency, and role as a service provider, we aim to support you in building a more secure and trusting relationship with those you serve.
Trust isn't just a feature of our software—it's the standard we strive for every day.
